What a month it’s been! We hope you have enjoyed celebrating AAPI heritage with family and friends as much as we have. Here’s a quick recap of what we did.
Taiko Performance at JAMS
On May 25th, during an Assembly at John Adams Middle School (JAMS) we co-hosted a Taiko performance by LA Mugen. This was made possible by a generous donation from the ASB (Associated Student Body) and the assistance from the ASU (Asian Student Union) led by Liz Cowgill and Glenn Sato.
AAPI Celebration at Samohi
On May 22nd, we co-hosted a performance by Koshin Taiko during lunchtime in the Santa Monica High School Innovation Quad. We are grateful for the support of the PTSA and the School administration for this opportunity. It was wonderful to see students participate and appreciate the special music.
Grant Elementary School Open House
Grant school parent volunteers and the PTA DEI leaders put together this special AAPI display for students and families to view during Open House on May 25th.
JAMS Asian Student Union Luau
On May 19th, we enjoyed a special Hawaiian meal and were entertained with a Hula show led by Kumu Keali’i Ceballos. It was fun to see John Adams Middle School students learn to hula alongside their teachers and Principal Chacon.
Japanese/Korean Children’s Day
On May 5th, at JAMS and Grant Elementary, we celebrated Children’s Day with Japanese and Korean snacks/candy and activities like origami-making.
End of the Year Beach Party
Let’s kick-off Summer together by having “fun in the sun” on Sunday, June 11th beginning at 3pm. For those who want to stay to watch the sunset, please pack your jackets and blankets. Click here to RSVP
